The House in the Picture and Abbot Thomas' Treasure
Book Review
The House in the Picture and
Abbot Thomas' Treasure
This week I read The House
in the Picture and Abbot Thomas' Treasure. This genre of this book is
horror. At first, I was reading without knowing what the genre of this book
was. As I read on, I gradually realized that the stories of this book were
horror, and I regretted reading this book before boing to bed at night.
However, the contents of these stories were interesting. So, I wrote down one
quote from each of the two stories.
The
first is: ‘Now the picture has told you the true story.’ (quote from The
House in the Picture p.27) This is the last sentence in the story. Even though
it’s strange that the picture changed in various ways over time, I felt that it
was even stranger that the change represented the horrific events of the past. I
also had something I didn’t understand after reading this story. Why Gawdy
kidnapped Arthur Francis’ child after Gawdy died? Why did Mr. Britnell
recommend Mr. Williams to buy this old engraving in the first place? The combination
of these mysteries and the content of this story made me even more scared.
The next
is: ‘There was nobody at the top of the well! But George heard somebody laughing.’
(quote from Abbot Thomas' Treasure p.60) At first, I felt that it was
interesting that they searched for treasure while deciphering the code, but
when they visited the hidden place of treasure, strange things happened to them
in quick succession. This scene was very scary.
I give this book 8 stars out of 10. If you like horror story, I recommend
to read this book.
